[Essay] 1st Degree Black Belt - How Taekwondo changed my life?

Taekwondo has impacted my life in many positive ways. It has taught me discipline, leadership, respect and to strive for excellence in everything that I do.

From my very first taekwondo class, I learned a lot about the martial arts and about myself and my strength. I remember in the first class I went to when they had us break a board and I was nervous to do it. I did not know if I could break the board but when the Master said to be confident and strong I was able to break the board. I carried that principle to be confident and strong ever since.

Taekwondo has impacted my life by teaching me new things I would not learn in other places like school. Some things I have learned are fixation (how you think about something or someone), kihop (energy from the core that gives you power), hongik (how to benefit others and put others first), and how to be more confident. An example of how I use these taekwondo skills outside of the center include volunteering to be on the school news announcements in 5th grade

even though it was out of my comfort zone at first.

Taekwondo has also changed my life by keeping me fit and healthy as well as giving me confidence. I now also know more about self defense moves like kicks and punches. Plus I can now run faster and farther due to the healthy lifestyle and strength from taekwondo.

Another way taekwondo has changed my life is that now I am more responsible than when I started. I also have a better time remembering taekwondo forms and school assignments to keep up on my homework and tests. Plus, it gave me an increase in focus so now I get better grades at school. The pursuit of excellence I learned in taekwondo helps me earn straight A's so far in middle school and I plan to continue working hard for all A's.

Taekwondo has also impacted my life by letting me meet new people that are all very friendly and nice. I am glad I get to see them throughout the week and I hope they all get their black belts. We have worked hard over the years together to get to this great achievement level.

Another way Taekwondo has impacted my life is that I am now a leader and I enjoy helping other students learn forms, rolls and kicks at the Taekwondo center. I feel great about helping the younger students or lower belt students learn and grow. I enjoy teaching and feel proud when they earn their stripes. I enjoy being a leader to others.

I think Taekwondo is a great martial art to do because you get to learn new things, you get to practice leadership skills, you get to accomplish things you never thought you could do, and you get to be more confident. I would recommend taekwondo to others that are looking to achieve more and be impacted in positive ways.

As a black belt, I plan to be a good role model to others and a leader. I would like to teach others and impact their life like Master Lee and others did for me.
